Traveling Bookshelf Books

Paris

Who wants to travel to Paris? I love to read any and all books. I especially love historical fiction and I enjoy learning about an unfamiliar topic, place or time period. I rate my books and most recently add reviews. I have found that it is almost impossible to go back and write a review, if I have previously missed out on the opportunity. It would not be accurate, as I read so many books my mind cannot keep them all straight. I am passionate about anything I love, so if I loved the book it will most likely have a review included. You can visit me on goodreads for additional book suggestions and reviews.

Here is a list of the books I have read that take place in Paris. Several of them are during World War II as I read those quite frequently.

The Women of Chateau Lafayette by Stephanie Dray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars Goodreads rating: 4.26
This book was fabulous! Based on a true story and rich with history. Very long, but so good and I learned so much. The author did a fabulous job with her research and I always love a book that I can spend additional time studying the events. Three stories about courageous women during different time periods. Two of the stories are based on actual women and the actual events of their life and wow, what an impact they made in history. One of the women being Adrienne Lafayette, the wife of Marquis de Lafayette. I enjoyed learning about Adrienne Lafayette and also her husband and his role in the American and French Revolution. It was also fascinating to learn about Lafayette’s friendship with George Washington. When I visited George Washington’s house in Mt. Vernon, Virginia I saw the framed key to the Bastille prison that was given to him by Lafayette in 1790. I got so excited that I even new who Lafayette was and it’s only because of this book. I loved that this book took place in Paris since I just visited. Portions of the book took place at the Palace of Versailles, which is a palace I just toured when I was there. So fun to look back on my photo’s of Marie Antoinette’s bedroom and Louie’s XVI chambers. So fascinating! I can’t remember the hall of mirrors though. I wish I would have read this before I went to Paris. I had a hard time keeping the three stories straight in the beginning, but it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with these amazing women.

Time periods – Revolutionary War & French Revolutionary War, WWI & WWII.
